Myotherapy, Bonnie Prudden's Complete Guide to Pain-Free Living written by Bonnie Prudden in 1984 to follow her best-selling book Pain Erasure
Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy® is a specialized form of massage therapy that is the original method of trigger point therapy as described in Taber's Medical Dictionary. Myotherapy is a specialty certification within the field of massage therapy. Slow targeted pressure is applied to hardened, tight areas of muscle for several seconds followed by controlled dynamic parallel fiber massage. Active corrective movements can help to provide muscular reeducation for additional therapeutic benefit . This technique is described in two bestselling books, Pain Erasure The Bonnie Prudden Way, and Myotherapy, Bonnie Prudden's Guide to Pain-Free Living. John studied directly under Bonnie Prudden and after Board Certification taught for the Bonnie Prudden School as visiting adjunct faculty. He has provided more sessions of this type of therapy than any other therapist and is one of less than twelve remaining full time practitioners in the country with this training.
Shorts and a tee shirt or sports bra are commonly worn during the session. Patients who are more comfortable wearing tights or sweat pants are encouraged to do so. For sports trigger point therapy that also incorporates massage, the client can be draped with a sheet to allow for the use of therapy lotions.
